Inaugural ‘An Evening of Elegance’ – 2016
The Friends of Two Rivers Mansion showcased the $1.4 million restoration of the historic antebellum Mansion at its first “Evening of Elegance” on April 29th at the beautiful 14-acre site on McGavock Pike.
The crowd was not deterred by early evening showers that moved the social hour from the expansive front lawn to the wide double back veranda of the Italianate-style Mansion, where guests enjoyed mingling, sipping beverages, and tasting passed appetizers.
Event Chair Willie McDonald welcomed guests to dinner in the Mansion parlors, where tables dressed in white and gold and centered by large white hydrangeas sparkled beneath the Mansion’s antique crystal chandeliers. Guests dined on grilled herbed salmon and lemon dream chicken and accompaniments, with a scrumptious finale of buttermilk strawberry shortcake.
Pianist and vocalist Brooks Parker performed some Frank Sinatra favorites to end a perfect evening at the magnificent 1859 Mansion that has been restored to its full glory. It was an evening reminiscent of the social events enjoyed for many years there by its last resident and McGavock descendant on the property, Mary Louise Bransford McGavock.
